Hockey is a game where any number of players can be changed freely for unlimited number of times. Therefore, the timing of player substitution can affect the flow of the game significantly. Those watching the game can enjoy predicting the final result by observing which player is still going strong or starting to slow down, which side the game is flowing toward, when will it be the best timing to change the players, and so on.

This is the set play that is unique to hockey. The defence of (1 goalkeeper and 4 field players) has a limited number of players, while the attacker has unlimited number of players, so the probability of scoring is higher and greatly influences the flow of the game. Penalty corners are awarded to the attacking team when:

1.The defending team fouls within the circle

2.The defending team fouls intentionally on an attacking player outside the penalty circle but within the 23-meter area they are defending.

3.The defending player deliberately plays the ball over the backline.

Penalty corner is highly advantageous to the attacking team because the team can start attacking with more players than the defending team. Penalty corner is thrilling to watch the attacking team utilize this advantage and score a goal without fail and the defending team trying its best to prevent the ball from crossing its goal line despite of the disadvantageous conditions caused by the penalty.
